I honestly didn’t know what to do about the lack of internship, I thought about going home, I thought about going abroad, I was waiting for an opportunity and Belfast Design Week was just that. It was the perfect networking opportunity, a few days later I was contacted about a Seamstress position by a streetwear brand based in Belfast, the weirdest thing to me was I never heard of it before or so I thought.
I actually knew some of the employees and my friend introduced me to the brand a year ago, I knew there was a brand that helped the homeless but never caught the name. Outside In was the best opportunity I could have gotten in Belfast.
What resonated with me the most was the social impact this brand has on the homeless, the brand itself is quite young 3 years and the impact they have on people is incredible. The founder of the brand was passionate about not only the clothes but also the impact they had on the most vulnerable in our community. Designing with purpose is what I am personally passionate about and I felt like this opportunity was a once in a lifetime experience.
Before my interview and trial day I had to do my research I went on the brands website, found articles about it, even texted my connection at Outside In to make sure I knew as much as I could. This is the first time I also did a trial day before I had the interview which was quite unusual, the interview itself was quite relaxed, and I was offered the position at that time. I felt like the luckiest person in the universe. I can honestly say that I believe in the law of attraction, what you give out is what you get, if you go all in you will reach your goal all you have to do is work hard the rest will follow.
